KML Viewer

View local KML features, properties and a tile-free geometry sketch in your browser. Free, read-only and private, with no file uploads or remote map calls.

KML stores geographic placemarks in XML. This viewer converts self-contained KML geometry with togeojson on your device. It displays placemark properties as text and never follows NetworkLink elements.

How to use the KML Viewer

Choose a .kml file. Inspect feature and vertex counts, compare the local longitude/latitude sketch and page through feature properties. The preview fits the geometry bounds without requesting map tiles.

What the KML Viewer supports

Local SVG sketch of points, lines and polygon outlines, feature counts and paged property inspection. No remote map tiles or user content sent to mapping services.

File limits and compatibility

20 MiB input; 10,000 features; 200,000 vertices. WGS84 longitude/latitude only; geometry depth 32. First 1,000 feature properties, 50 keys each, 2,000 characters per value. KML: 100,000 XML nodes and depth 64; DTDs, entities and NetworkLink blocked. No reprojection, altitude, antimeridian correction, styling, overlays, editing or KMZ.

Expanded content can reach browser limits before the input limit. If opening fails, try a smaller supported file. No cloud fallback is used. This viewer is free and requires no account.

KML Viewer FAQ

Does the map preview contact a tile provider?

No. The sketch is a local SVG fitted to the file bounds. There are no remote map tiles, basemap labels or third-party geographic requests.

What geographic fidelity should I expect?

Only WGS84 longitude/latitude coordinates are shown. Altitude and styling are ignored, polygon holes appear as outlines, and shapes crossing the antimeridian may look stretched. This is an inspection sketch, not a GIS tool.

Are remote KML links or embedded descriptions loaded?

No. KML NetworkLink, DTDs and entity declarations are rejected. Icons, overlays and descriptions are not rendered; properties are displayed as escaped text. KMZ archives are unsupported.
